Layne Kropfelder

Clinical Intern
(she/her)

As one of CSWC’s clinical interns, Layne Kropfelder offers accessible and high quality sex therapy services through our STAAR Initiative. Layne is working toward her Master’s of Social Work from UNC Chapel Hill with a course concentration in adult mental health, and CSWC is is providing her with valuable clinical experience while she provides services to clients who may have difficulty having financial access to sex therapy services.  Prior to starting her Master’s program, she was at UNC – Chapel Hill earning her Bachelor’s in Psychology with a Minor in English. Layne has a longstanding passion for sex positivity and sex therapy, and collaborated with other students to establish a special interest group within her master’s program to help students learn more about sexuality and sex therapy.

Layne’s academic background has given her skills in strength-based client work and empathetic caregiving, positioning her well to bring deep sensitivity, unconditional positive regard, and emotional attunement to her therapy work. Her goal is to help dismantle any shame, discomfort, or dissatisfaction that might be ingrained in clients’ views of sex, gender expression, or sexual orientation. She works to promote an environment where clients feel comfortable sharing openly without any fear of judgment or shaming.

“Sexuality is more than simply the action of sex. It is a form of self-expression, a way for us to be truly known, and an opportunity to embrace pleasure, intimacy, and vulnerability to connect with others and – just as importantly – ourselves.”
