Amanda Pahl
MA, LMFTA
(she/her)
Amanda Pahl, MA, LMFTA, is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapy Associate who earned her Master’s in Marriage & Family Therapy with a specialization in Systemic Sex Therapy from National University and her Bachelor’s in Interpersonal and Organizational Communication Studies with minors in Neuroscience and Women & Gender Studies from UNC Chapel Hill. Amanda is currently accruing hours towards her full licensure.
As an undergraduate, Amanda found that her interests in psychology, sexuality studies, and women and gender studies combined perfectly to bring her to sex therapy as a profession. She has also personally experienced the harmful effects of purity culture, shame, and sex-negativity, which have fueled a passion for rewriting that narrative and helping others to build healthier, more pleasurable relationships with themselves, their partners, and sex.
Amanda is an LGBTQ+ affirming therapist and has experience working with diverse populations and relationship structures. She has worked with clients facing a wide range of individual mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, and sexual dysfunctions as well as relationship challenges, such as communication, conflict management, infidelity, and mismatched desire.
Amanda sees clients in our Durham offices and via telehealth. She accepts most BCBS, Cigna, and Aetna plans and can also see clients who would like to use out of network benefits and private/self pay clients.
“Sex therapy is an opportunity to access the parts of yourself that have been hidden, heal the parts that hurt, and find answers to questions that might feel too intimidating to ask. This is only possible when you feel understood and accepted, rather than judged.”

Working with Amanda
There are so few spaces in this world where we feel safe enough to be open, vulnerable, and candid about sex. Therapy with Amanda is a place where judgments, assumptions, and ideas about what’s “normal” are suspended to make way for deeper understanding, pleasure, and empowerment.
Often when people seek therapy, they can feel stuck or overwhelmed. Amanda works from a solution-focused perspective that seeks to utilize the strengths you already have to get out of that stuck feeling and find practical solutions that work for you.
One of the most important factors for successful therapy is the relationship between you and your therapist. Amanda strives to make her clients feel as comfortable as possible, both with her and with the process of therapy. She brings her authentic self to sessions and encourages you to come as you are!
Personal Interests
Outside of work, Amanda likes doing any and all crafts (most recently bedazzling), attending concerts and making music, and planning themed parties for her friends (galentine’s, game nights, etc.). She relaxes by watching reality dating shows and comforting sitcoms.
